Using your landline phone service to communicate alarm signals to the monitoring station is a little cheaper than having a cellular communicator in your system – but that’s about the only benefit. Landline phone service is easily defeated by an intruder cutting the line outside your home. Landline phone service can go down in severe weather. Landline phone service (especially that provided by a cable service company or FIOS) will go down during a power outage.
Cellular communication solves all these problems, for a few dollars more per month. Cellular communication is almost impossible to defeat by an intruder. It's also very reliable in severe weather and even when the power goes out (unless it's a very extended power outage). With the systems offered by 5 Star Security, your system will be able to connect with up to three cellphones through text messaging. You can receive a text message any time your system goes into alarm or anytime your power goes out or comes back on. If you wish, you can also receive a text message every time your system is disarmed – and it will tell you the name of the person who just disarmed it! You can send one-word text messages to your system to arm or disarm it or check on it's status. Most systems installed by 5 Star Security are now using cellular for communication.
